This proposal will discuss Will Bury and his privately developed technology that allows him to transform a piece of writing into a digital format for audio and or reading. This proposal will also discuss basic recommendations on how Mr. Will Bury may increase his revenues, adjust variable and fixed cost in efforts to maximize profits, reduce costs, and achieve ideal production levels. His variable costs are royalty fees for copyrighted book titles, labor, and the materials used to convert the text and place them in a digital and audio format. In order or Mr. Will Bury to continue to improve his new technology he will need to hire additional labor to run the conversion process and help him in researching and securing copyrighted material appropriate for conversion. This will then allow Mr. Will Bury to increase his production and revenue; however, his variable costs will also increase. This will increase Mr. Will Bury’s total cost and will factor into the price he then sets for his product. When determining the cost per unit, Mr. Will Bury will have to add up all variable costs and divide by the number of units sold. 1. Lina Vilkas is the fifteen year old protagonist of Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. Lina has long, wavy, honey-colored hair and blue eyes. She is headstrong, impulsive, and outspoken, which puts her in danger. Though it is risky, she uses her art to express her emotions and opinions. She was accepted into art school because of her talent. Lina is protective of her younger brother, and loves her family. Though they clash at first, Lina and Andrius Arvydas, a seventeen year old boy she meets on the train, fall in love. Andrius is handsome with wavy brown hair and blue eyes. He tries to take care of Lina’s family as much as possible, especially Lina’s younger brother Jonas. Andrius is separated from Lina, but they eventually find each other and get married. Andrius’ mother, Mrs. Arvydas is a pretty, dainty woman that is forced to sleep with the Russian soldiers in order to keep Andrius alive. Jonas Vilkas is Lina’s ten year old brother. He catches scurvy, but does not die. Jonas is forced to grow up too quickly, as he works to keep the family alive when they stay in a woman named Ulyushka’s house. Lina’s mother, Elena Vilkas, is a pretty woman that knows Russian and goes out of her way to help everyone. Sadly, she falls ill after hearing her husband has been shot, and dies. Her husband, Kostas is separated from the rest of the family, and is sent to a prison. Lina attempts to contact her father multiple times, but it is unknown whether he is dead or alive. Nikolas

The presentation Mr. Starkweather gave touched upon many points of entrepreneurship and perseverance. In today’s world this might not seem like that big of a deal, but there were many obstacles standing in the way of this invention. The idea of building a printer based on laser technology was foreign for the time period. When the idea was first proposed not one company wanted to put money towards the development. This rejection came with a great deal of defeat and a sense of hopelessness for Mr. Starkweather. Not only did he not let the critics drag him down, but he also had the determination to keep pushing the idea onto different printing companies. Kodak finally stepped up to the plate and offered a patent but no funding. Although the money wasn’t there, this was still a big step in the right direction. After much perseverance and experimentation the laser printer was finally developed in 1959. Being able to prove all the companies that doubted the idea was an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment for Mr. Starkweather. This new technology was able to print original copies straight from your computer. This machine was ground breaking for the time period and was able to significantly improve the functionality of offices across America. After being able to reflect upon Mr. Starkweather’s presentation I realized that even though people might not accept your ideas at first it is important not to give up. The rejection you receive should only be an indication to further your research and prove how your idea can be practical and advantageous. By giving up on your own idea due to someone else’s reaction, we are falling into peer pressure and tricking ourselves into thinking we are failures. Mr. Starkweather not only risked his pride but he also risked his employment. Not only was he able to prove what was thought to be the impossible possible, but he was able to jump start a new way of life. In today’s world we are now able go to our local Wal-Mart and pick up one of these laser printers for under $100. It is very ironic how something we take for granted today, took so much time and rejection 50 plus years ago. This presentation was not only important for the business majors but it could have also done a great job at inspiring the rest of the school. After finding out how much rejection Mr. Starkweather endured and how much of a success his idea became, I was very impressed and caused me to reflect upon how I would act if I was put into a similar situation.
